The Mars Area School Board is asking for help considering more options about how to deal with a lack of capacity at a couple of buildings for younger students.
Following up on a meeting held in March, Jon Thomas of Thomas and Williamson again presented the board and gathered community members with possibilities for addressing needs.
After receiving feedback from administrators and board members, Thomas came up with an option that would move students out of the primary center, leaving it as a mostly administrative facility. Kindergarten and first graders would join second and third grades in an elementary school with a large, two story addition while fourth grade would move to the Centennial School which would also see a two story classroom addition. This option would cost more than the first option presented in March but could also include the addition of a larger gym at either Centennial or the High School.
The board is looking for 30 to 40 Mars community members who would be willing to join an advisory committee. Thomas would facilitate two or three meetings a month of a couple hours each with a goal of hearing from parents, students, teachers, administrators, board members, older residents, business owners, and local people with knowledge in different areas in order to guide the board’s decision. These meetings could begin as early as next month. Visit the Mars Area School District website for more information.
