Local school students are sponsoring a blood drive today while others are holding a collection to benefit wild gorillas.
The Mars Area High School Student Council is sponsoring the drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donors must be at least 16-years-old and weigh more than 110 pounds. They must also be in good health. All potential donors must present identification, and any students who are 16 must submit a signed parent consent form, which is available on the district website. Parents and community members are also welcome to donate. To schedule an appointment, visit the Red Cross website.
A collection of used cell phones and other electronic devices is taking place at Mars Area Centennial School. In addition to phones, the Kindness Club is collecting iPads, iPods, tablets, Apple watches, adapters, chargers, MP3 players, handheld gaming systems, and headphones. The items will then be donated to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium who will recycle them. Donations can be dropped off at the school’s collection bin in the lobby through tomorrow (Wednesday).
