Renovations to the Mars Area Middle School in southern Butler County are nearing completion.
The latest update to the Mars School Board from a representative of Thomas & Williamson Project Management is that crews are finishing up work on the facility’s HVAC system.
The board engaged in a detailed examination and discussion of a $44,000 change order that included modifications from the original plan in several areas including unexpected electrical work and cleaning. That change order was eventually approved for payment.
The Thomas and Williamson representative went on to say that although the project looks to be about $89,000 over the original $13 million budget, some of that overage was as a result of conditions not known when bidding the project as well as modifications requested by district administrators while work was taking place.
