After rejecting bids for their Elementary Expansion project earlier this year, the Mars Area School Board is moving forward with ones that are significantly closer to estimates.
Tuesday night the Board voted unanimously to accept the low bids received which total about $21.4 million which is about $4 million less than bids received in May.
Thomas Construction will be the General Contractor for the project and receive nearly $14.3 million. Other companies working on the project include roofing by Redwood Construction, food service equipment from Bova Corp, Vrabel Plumbing for plumbing and fire protection, Prontotech for HVAC, and electrical work by Allegheny City Electric.
Construction on the Elementary Additions and Alterations project is now expected to begin sometime next month with a goal of not impacting instruction at the current elementary school.
Mars administrators are also preparing to issue a second bond for around $10 million to fund the remainder of the project.
