The Mars Area School District has a new contract in place for the next five years with the company providing student transportation.
The agreement with A.J Myers and Sons Inc includes a rate of just over $2.6 million for the school year beginning July 1st, 2024 as well as an annual increase of 3% per year after that.
The Mars Area School Board approved the deal by a vote of 6 to 3 with board member Megan Lenz casting one of the dissenting votes after expressing concerns about holding the company accountable for safety and security as well as customer service.
Mars administrators who worked to negotiate the deal checked with other districts to make sure that they received a comparable rate but also pointed to the long-standing relationship and positive collaboration between the district and the company.
