The Mars Area School Board has approved a budget that again increases milage next year.
After a vote to table the Mars final budget of just over $65 million for the 2025-26 school year failed, the nearly $2 million increase over the current year with a 1 mil tax increase passed by a vote of 5 to 3.
The new rate for taxpayers of the Mars Area School District climbs to 110 mils and works out to nearly $30 more annually for the average district property owner.
Mars will see an increase in revenue of just over $300,000 which is needed in preparation for debt service associated with the building project at the Mars elementary school. This budget also includes not replacing three teacher retirees but hiring two additional paraprofessionals.
This is the third consecutive year that Mars has enacted a tax increase with the approval last year of a 3.474 mil increase.
