The Mars Area School Board heard from a group of student athletes and parents seeking school-affiliated opportunities.
At the Tuesday night meeting director and founder of the Mars Girls Field Hockey club sport program Lauren Billinger asked the board to consider elevating the middle and high school program for a two-year trial affiliation period at no cost to the district.
Specifically, she is seeking the benefit of suitable use of the turf field facilities of the district for the growth and safety of approximately 50 student participants.
A number of seventh and eighth grade girls spoke to the board about the benefit that they have received from this middle school program since it began nearly two years ago and their hopes of continuing to represent Mars Field Hockey in high school.
