Health officials say there are now confirmed cases of measles in Erie County.
The Erie County Department of Health has confirmed that two cases of measles have been confirmed in the county. Officials say the cases are in connection with International Travel.
This is the first case of measles in Western Pennsylvania.
Measles is highly contagious and dangerous for children under five, and can cause pneumonia and dehydration in adults, often leading to hospitalization.
Vaccines are available for all ages, and officials say full vaccination reduces the risk of infection by 97%.
The Erie County Department of Health says there isn’t a high risk of the disease spreading from these cases at this time.
