The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 last night in the opening game of a three-game series. The Mets won with a walk-off run the bottom of the ninth after the Pirates had tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the inning. The Pirates had two early leads in the game, which was started by Paul Skenes. He allowed one earned run over six innings, but did not figure in the decision.
David Bednar took the loss after allowing the ninth inning rally. His record fell to 0-4.
The Bucs and Mets play again tonight at 7:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:45pm.
The Pirates set a franchise record Monday night, with their 18th consecutive game of scoring four runs or less.
