The Major League Baseball Players Union has said NO to the league’s proposal to push back the start of the season into April, and delaying the start of spring training to March 22nd instead of February 17th. MLB was seeking more time for coronavirus vaccinations and to allow more time for the virus situation to settle down in certain areas, especially Arizona where the Cactus League plays its preseason.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced there will be a limited number of fans permitted to attend spring training games at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Florida. They expect to permit about 25% of the 8,500-seat capacity. The Bucs play host to the Atlanta Braves in their first scheduled home spring training game February 28th.
