Congressman Mike Kelly honored students and staff at Moniteau High School yesterday for helping those with special needs get real world experience.
Moniteau has The Blend Café, which allows special needs students to build fundamental skills they can use after graduation.
Kelly awarded the students and staff with a Community Champion award yesterday for their work.
Amy McKivigan, the school transition Coordinator and a learning support teacher, says the social impact with students has been one of the biggest differences.
“Our students are recognized by the regular education kids, and they’ll talk with them in the hall,” McKivigan said. “They’re now being socially accepted throughout the school, which is great.”
