A couple events are going on out at Moraine State Park this weekend.
First, on Saturday from 8 to 9:30 p.m. a program about bats will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Visitors can see a bat condo in action and learn about how reporting bat activity can help scientists. Those planning to attend should bring blankets, chairs, flashlights, and bug protection. The restroom facilities at the church will not be open.
Then on Sunday, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. park staff will lead a Discover Porters Cove Paddle at the Porters Cove Boat Launch. Park staff will discuss the history of this area and lead a nature-based exploration of the tributaries of Lake Arthur which could include sightings of herons, beavers, and other wildlife.
This beginners event is for ages 12 and older with those under 18 to be accompanied by an adult. Participants can bring their own kayaks. A limited number of kayaks are available. Life jackets are required. Call the park office to reserve a spot or for more information.
