Following the announcement that state police applicants are not required to have college credits, the academy has seen a jump in the number of applicants.
According to state officials, nearly 300 people applied two days after the announcement was made by Governor Josh Shapiro.
Out of that total, 137 applicants did not have college credits.
The move was made by Shapiro after state police say there is a growing number of troopers that will be eligible for retirement in the next few years.
This year’s state budget calls for hiring 384 new troopers.
