Findings have been revealed from an investigation into the 911 outage that happened earlier this month.
The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency says the 911 outage of several hours that occurred Friday, July 11th was as a result of a defect in the operating system. There is no evidence of a cyber-attack.
The Next Generation 911 system routes emergency calls to one of two data centers in the state for processing by the core service components to determine the location so that the proper 911 center out of 61 in the state can receive the call and alert the correct emergency responders.
Corrective measures to ensure redundancy are being implemented. They also say it’s a good idea to save the county’s non-emergency phone number which is 724-282-1221.
