A new law goes into effect Tuesday that requires more caution when driving near an emergency vehicle stopped on the side of the road.
The ‘Move Over’ law says that if drivers are not able to merge into another lane safely when entering an emergency response area, they must go a minimum of 20 miles per hour below the speed limit.
The law now imposes stricter fines and a point system against drivers who violate the law. First time offenders are fined $500, and repeat offenders could see penalties as high as $2,000 and a license suspension.
