The Nascar Cup Series race at Talladega was rained out Sunday – and will be run today. Hear coverage on WBUT (and at wbut.com) beginning at 3pm. Martin Truex, Jr will start from the pole.
The race was intended to be the first return for a smaller group of fans at a racetrack, and was also the first race with fans following Nascar’s ban of the confederate flag at tracks. Cars and pickup trucks drove along roads near the Talladega racetrack and past the entrance Sunday flying the Confederate flag in a form a protest of the flag decision, and a small plane flew over pulling a banner than said, “Defund NASCAR.”
There was also an incident in the garage area after a noose was discovered in the stall of Bubba Wallace – the only black driver in the Cup Series. Nascar has begun an investigation calling the incident a heinous act.
