A new proposed bill in the state house would ban the use of Native American logos or mascots for public school districts.
The legislation was proposed by State Representative Chris Rabb of Philadelphia, who says over 60 schools use those types of logos in Pennsylvania.
He and other supporters of the bill say it’s necessary because most school districts “disregard the concerns of indigenous people.”
This would impact schools like North Hills, Penn Hills, and Peters Township.
Earlier this year, Seneca Valley banned the use of the Native American raider image in their logo, instead opting for the “S-V” block graphic as their main logo.
