The New England Patriots won the AFC Championship with a 24-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday. Tom Brady overcame a cut on his hand that apparently required stitches to throw for 290 yards and two touchdowns. Brady led the Patriots back from a 20-10 deficit in the fourth quarter for the victory. Jacksonville quarterback Blake Bortles threw for 293 yards and one touchdown. His quarterback coach is Butler native Scott Milanovich.The Patriots were flagged by officials one time during the game. It was the fewest penalties called on one team since the AFC Championship game in 2011, when New England defeated Baltimore. Jacksonville was penalized six times for 98 yards.
This year’s Super Bowl will be the eighth appearance for Tom Brady and his coach Bill Belichick. They have won five of those games, and enter as defending champions after defeating Atlanta 34-28 last year.
New England will meet the Philadelphia Eagles who pounded the Minnesota Vikings 38-7 to win the NFC Championship Sunday night. Eagles quarterback Nick Foles threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns.
