Get ready to set sail at Moraine State Park this summer thanks to a new boat that was formally introduced Thursday.
The Moraine Preservation Fund acquired the new boat over the winter and held a contest for the new name. After getting hundreds of entries, the group decided on Preston’s Pearl—named for Butler County environmentalist Dr. Frank Preston, the namesake of Preston Park in Butler Township.
“What a great way to carry on the legacy we had for such a long time of enjoying the lake and being able to bring people back onto the lake that have never been out there before,” Dixon said.
The two-story pontoon style boat can be used for private parties or public tours of Lake Arthur. It replaces the Nautical Nature
Dixon believes this will be another way for people to get connected to nature.
“Our riders get to learn about the history of the park, the history of the lake, the geology of what’s around, and the animals that live in the area,” Dixon said. “A lot of people don’t realize what a gem we have in the area.”
Tours are expected to begin on Memorial Day Weekend. More info can be found on Moraine’s website.
