After just over three weeks, the United States House of Representatives has a new Speaker of the House and a local lawmaker helped to make it happen.
Congressman Mike Kelly was one of the Republican majority who cast a unanimous vote in favor of Representative Mike Johnson of Louisiana.
Kelly called Johnson “a leading conservative voice in the House Republican Conference” and went on to say “It’s time to unite and get back to work”.
Last week Kelly introduced a resolution looking to expand the power of temporary Speaker of the House Patrick McHenry for a time in order to allow Congress to move critical legislation.
During previous votes for Speaker of the House in which many Republicans voted for Ohio Representative Jim Jordan, Kelly voted for Steve Scalise, who previously dropped out of the race.
