The study from AAA has found that 15 percent of police-reported crashes involved a driver who fled the scene. The latest numbers are from 2023, and is the highest recorded percentage ever.
The study also found 1 in 4 pedestrians killed in crashes were hit by a driver who fled the scene.
The majority of hit-and-run drivers were young, male, and crashed within a short distance of their homes.
