Corey Heim, making only his 13th start in the Nascar Cup Series, outdueled his teammate Tyler Reddick to win the inaugural NASCAR race at Naval Base Coronado in California Sunday night. Heim, who will move into a full-time ride next season at “23-11” Racing owned by Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan, grabbed the lead from Reddick with two laps remaining after chasing the points leader for several circuits around the street course on Coronado Island near San Diego. Bubba Wallace finished 10 seconds behind Heim in a 1-2 finish for “23-11” Racing. Kyle Larson finished third. The race favorite, Shane Van Gisbergen, was knocked out of the race during an early crash while battling for the lead.
The drivers head to another road course in California, moving up the coast to Sonoma.
