Fire officials are urging caution over the next few weeks as December ranks as the leading month for home fires in America.
Officials with the National Fire Protection Association, known as the NFPA, say there are a number of factors as to why the number of house fires spike this time of year.
They say cooking, heating, Christmas trees and décor increase the chance of fires in the home. Cooking remains the number one reason for fires.
Christmas Day and Christmas Eve represent the second and third-leading days of the year for home cooking fires.
