The NHL Players’ Association has initially agreed to play under the 24-team playoff format that was recently proposed by the league.
A vote by the 31 player representatives was completed by Friday evening, with a majority voting in favor of the format.
Under the format, the Pittsburgh Penguins would need to win a best of five “play-in” series prior to the first official round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The top four teams in each conference would have a “bye” during this round, but would play exhibition games in preparation of the first round.
Additional details regarding this format will be decided on in the near future.
