A man from Nigeria is facing charges after he allegedly defrauded a university out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The Department of Justice announced that Farouk Adepoju was arrested in the United Kingdom last week and is awaiting extradition to the U.S.
He allegedly was able to get remote access to a protected computer that belonged to an unnamed construction company in Western PA that was doing work for a university. The DOJ did not name the university, only describing it as a college in Western Pennsylvania.
Adepoju was able to send an email under the guise of the construction company asking to update payment information to a fraudulent bank account. In total, Adepoju scammed over $235,000 from the university.
He faces up to 20 years in prison.
