The Pittsburgh Pirates overcame a six-run deficit to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-6 last night. Arizona had built a 6-0 lead after four innings, scoring five runs off Pirates starting pitcher Mike Burrows, who was making his second major league start. Henry Davis got the Bucs on the board with a two-run home run in the sixth inning, and Bryan Reynolds hit a three-run home run to highlight a seven-run eighth inning. Reynolds went 4-for-4 in the game.
David Bednar earned his sixth save of the year. Bednar and Dennis Santana closed the game with two perfect innings, striking out four of the six batters they faced.
The nine-unanswered runs were the most the Pirates have scored in a game since April 22nd.
The Pirates and Diamondbacks complete their three-game series this afternoon at 3:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 3:15pm. Paul Skenes will start for the Bucs. He is 3-5 this season, but has a 2.36 ERA.
