Today is a National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter resulting in some closures around the Western Pennsylvania region.
As a result of an executive order issued by President Biden, most federal offices will be closed except for federal workers whose jobs have been designated as vital. Non-essential employees of the Butler VA Health Care System will be off but all scheduled appointments will still take place.
The United States Postal Service is suspending regular mail delivery, retail service, and online activity while some limited package delivery will take place. Businesses and banks are not required to close but the US stock markets will observe the day by closing.
Carter passed away at the age of 100 on December 30th and his state funeral is planned for today in Washington D.C.
