Leaders in the nursing home industry are stressing the importance of staff getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
Pennsylvania Health Care Association President Zach Shamberg said he was initially surprised by how many nursing home workers were not getting the vaccine.
“As I learn more and more about employees and frontline workers are feeling, how they’re getting their information, and really how they’re dealing with misinformation; especially on Facebook and social media politicizing this virus and this pandemic,” Shamberg said. “Unfortunately, that’s been done and one of the after-effects is a lack of trust even amongst long term care staff, even as it relates to the vaccine.”
Shamberg says they are continuing to find ways to educate workers about the vaccine. He also says Pennsylvania is above the national average when it comes to vaccinating its nursing home staff.
