As temperatures continue to get warmer, pet experts are reminding owners to take care of their animals this summer.
They offered a couple of tips that will help ensure a safe season for pets.
- Dogs should not be left tied outside on hot days and that it’s illegal to tether a dog outside longer than 30 minutes when it’s warmer than 90 degrees.
- Animals need plenty of clean water on hot days.
- Pets should never be left in parked cars.
- If it’s warm, make sure dogs are hydrated often on walks.
Pennsylvania passed the Animal Protection Statute Overhaul in 2017 that strengthens penalties for animal abuse—which includes provisions about leaving animals outside in hot weather.
