At the Olympics:
–Gymnast Simone Biles won her second gold medal in the all-around competition, becoming the first woman to ever win gold in non-consecutive games. Biles now has nine Olympic medals, six of them gold. American Suni Lee won the bronze medal.
–Katie Ledecky became the most-decorated woman Olympian in history when she won her 13th career medal, helping the 4×200 meter freestyle relay team to a silver medal. The 27-year old Ledecky now has eight golds, four silvers and one bronze medal over four Olympics. She has said she intends in competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
–The U.S. women’s basketball team defeated Belgium 87-74 to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals.
