One person died in a multi-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon in Mercer County.
The chain-reaction accident happened in the eastbound lane of I-80 in Pine Township just after noon.
Police say 80-year-old Laura Lesher and her passenger 80-year-old John Lesher, both of Gratz, Pennsylvania, were hit by a pickup truck driven by 33-year-old Shayne Stanford of Punxsutawney.
That caused their vehicle to crash into a tractor trailer that was driving in front of them. The Lesher’s vehicle then overturned and landed on its roof.
John Lesher suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Laura Lesher was taken to a Pittsburgh trauma center by medical helicopter—her current condition is not known. There was also a 16 and 11-year-old in the Lesher’s vehicle—they suffered minor injuries in the accident.
The crash resulted in I-80’s eastbound lane being shut down for almost six hours.
Police say their investigation is ongoing.
