The Secretary of the Commonwealth has announced an audit of the voter rolls has been completed and over 300,000 names have been moved to inactive.
Voters can be moved to active to inactive for a number of reasons including, death or moving out of the state. The Commonwealth uses postal records and interstate voter registration data to identify records in need of updates.
A voter can also be deemed inactive if they do not vote in two consecutive general elections.
The final numbers for the most recent audit saw 384,000 voters moved from active to inactive. The largest move from active to inactive was in the Democratic party with 178,000, Republican party second with 119,000.
Inactive voters’ registration is not canceled, they can update their record to move back into active.
These actions are a routine maintenance activity done between every election.
