We continue to look at the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths over the past few months at Butler Memorial Hospital to see what the data is showing.
We look at information, which comes directly from the Butler Health System, that indicates how many people have been hospitalized, the number of individuals in the ICU, and how many deaths were reported to the Department of Health.
Deaths
Now that we are end the end of October, we are currently looking at 28 deaths so far. The next update with the hospital is not expected until Monday, November 1, 2021 and that update would contain any pertinent information from the upcoming weekend (October 30th and 31st).
Data shows that 28 deaths this month is the highest at Butler Memorial Hospital since January of this year. At that time, January (2021) saw a total of 31 people pass in relation to COVID-19. The numbers were in a downward trend every since February with Butler Memorial seeing no patients dying of COVID-19 in July. After that point, the numbers started to increase once again with 8 deaths at the hospital in August, 19 in September, and now 28 in October.
December of 2020 still remains the worst month throughout the pandemic in the way of deaths at Butler memorial due to COVID-19 with the loss of 44 people.

Hospitalizations
We also looked at the number of individuals hospitalized from COVID-19 over the same time period.
Again, the highest peak of hospitalizations came in December (2020) reaching 65 individuals. In January, the numbers started to decline with that trend continuing in February. The first half of March saw numbers in the single digits, although the latter half of the month saw the number increase to 16 people in the hospital on any given day. It seemed to be like a bell curve in April where numbers increased to as high as 24 people and then decreased to 8 by month’s end. In May, the numbers did not reach higher than 15 and would remain that way until late August when, at most, 24 people were hospitalized. September and October would see the hospitalization numbers at Butler Memorial increase to as many as 50 people in September and 53 in October.
