Pennsylvania American Water is requesting a rate hike that could possibly take effect sometime next year.
In a request filed last week, the company sent notification to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission of the proposed hike, which would see an approximately $13/month increase for water service and $25/month increase for customers in the Butler wastewater system.
PA American Water officials say the rate increase is happening because they are planning to make $1.2 billion in critical infrastructure upgrades across the state including ones in Butler to update treatment and collection systems and eliminate sewer overflows.
The proposed increase now goes to the PUC for consideration. If approved, the rate hike could go into effect sometime in the second half of next year.
