The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commission has approved the acquisition of land in Butler County.
At a meeting Friday, the Board Commissioners accepted a proposal to purchase around 660 acres of land from Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, Inc.
The mostly forested area in Cherry and Clary Townships was bought for just over $1.1 million and is connected to the current state game land Number 95. A heron rookery located on a freshwater pond on the property provides a unique wildlife habitat feature.
Commission approval is one step in the land transfer process and the land is not yet officially part of state game lands available for public use.
