Pennsylvania is part of a combined national settlement agreement with eight drug manufacturers concerning actions taken during the opioid crisis.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the total settlement is about $720 million.
Pennsylvania could receive up to $28 million depending on how many local governments sign on to participate in the settlement. Several of the settlements allow payments to be made over several years or states to receive free pharmaceutical products and most of the companies are prohibited from promoting or marketing opioids and opioid products in the future.
This follows a $7.4 billion settlement announced last month with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family.
