A major round of faculty cuts could be coming to state-owned universities.
About 350 professors are facing layoffs at the end of the spring semester according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. They also report that 220 of those cuts would impact faculty at Clarion, Cal U, Edinboro, and IUP.
Slippery Rock University told our newsroom that they have not been impacted, have no plans to issue retrenchment letters to faculty.
The state system of higher education hopes that the move will stabilize finances and bring the faculty and student ratio to more equal levels.
