The Pittsburgh Penguins were busy over the weekend, making two trades. They sent defenseman Mike Matheson and a draft pick to Montreal for veteran defenseman Jeff Petry and forward Ryan Poehling.
The Pens also sent defenseman John Marino to New Jersey for 22-year old defenseman Ty Smith and a draft pick. The moves were made to increase the Penguins size on the blue line.
Penguins restricted free agent winger Kasperi Kapanen filed for arbitration ahead of the 5pm deadline yesterday. The Pens had made a qualifying offer to Kapanen to retain exclusive negotiating rights. He just completed a three-year contract with an annual value of $3.2 million.
