The Pittsburgh Penguins were shutout 4-0 last night by the Carolina Hurricanes at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens could not put any of their 23 shots behind Hurricanes back-up goaltender Curtis McElhinney. The loss dropped the Penguins to third place in the Metropolitan Division, two points behind Washington who defeated Vancouver 3-2 last night.
The Pens begin a three-game road trip Thursday in Florida.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced a five-year contract extension for 21-year old center Auston Matthews. The deal is reportedly worth $11.6 million annually. The former #1 draft pick and rookie of the year, has 97 goals in his first 182 regular season games.
