The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in a shoot-out last night at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens gave up the game-tying goal with one second left in regulation, when a puck deflected into the net off defenseman Erik Karlsson’s glove. The Penguins then fell 1-0 in the shoot-out. It was their second consecutive shoot-out loss.
The Penguins outshot the Ducks 48 to 28 in the game.
The Penguins played without Evgeni Malkin and Blake Lizotte who were both placed on Injured Reserve Tuesday. They are out week-to-week with “upper-body injuries”. Malkin had been leading the Penguins with 21 assists.
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby had an assist goal by Anthony Mantha that put his team ahead 3-2 with just under four minutes remaining in the game. It was Crosby’s 1,717th career point, moving him to within five of Mario Lemeiux’s franchise record.
The Pens will host Montreal Thursday.
