The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 6-2 last night for their fifth victory in a row. The Pens scored four goals in the second period. Egor Chinakhov and Anthony Mantha scored in a 31-second span of that period to help break the game open. Connor Dewar scored twice and goaltender Arturs Silovs stopped 17 of 19 shots on net.
The Pens played without winger Bryan Rust, who began serving a three-game suspension from the NHL. Rutger McGroarty was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to take his place on the roster. He had five shots, three hits and a block in the game.
The Penguins host the New York Rangers for a nationally televised game Saturday. Face-off is 3:30pm at PPG Paints Arena. WISR pre-game will be 3pm.
Last night’s victory kept the Penguins tied for second place in the Metropolitan Division with the New York Islanders. Both teams are six points in front of Washington and six points behind first-place Carolina. All four teams won last night. The Penguins visit the Islanders next Tuesday.
