The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals 5-4 in overtime last night. Jake Guentzel scored the game-winning goal with 2:49 left in the overtime period. Kasperi Kapanen scored twice last night for the Pens. Tristan Jarry stopped 33 of 37 shots.
The victory moved the Pens back into first place in the NHL East Division, and clinched a playoff spot for the 15th consecutive year. With the game going to overtime, the Caps earned a point to remain tied for first place with the Pens.
The two teams match-up again Saturday night at 7pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:30pm. The Pens will play back-to-back games in Philadelphia next Monday and Tuesday.
The 15-year consecutive playoff berth run for the Penguins is the longest active postseason streak among all teams in the major North American professional sports leagues.
