A new study shows that 19 people died in farm-related incidents last year.
The study done by Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences found that 14 of the state’s counties had fatal farm accidents. Butler had more than one fatality according to Penn State; Franklin and Lancaster also had multiple fatal accidents.
The most common incident involved industrial machines like tractors, with many of the fatalities attributed to rollover accidents.
The number of farm deaths in 2025 was the same as the previous year.
Penn State researchers say the program recognizes that some fatalities may be missing. The study’s main source of information was through rural newspaper, which have been decreasing in recent years.
