Penn State women’s volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley will be honored as the recipient of the 2025 Jimmy V Award. the Jimmy V Foundation on Monday. The award will officially be presented to Schumacher-Cawley during the ESPYS on July 16th in Los Angeles. The event will air live at 8 pm on ABC.
The Jimmy V Award is presented by the Jimmy V Foundation in memory of the late college basketball coach Jim Valvano and awarded as part of the ESPYs to “a deserving member of the sporting world who has overcome great obstacles through perseverance and determination.” Schumacher-Cawley publicly announced a breast cancer diagnosis in October but never let the disease slow her down as she led Penn State to its eighth national championship.
The Nittany Lions went 35- 2 and added a Big Ten title on their way to winning the NCAA crown. Schumacher-Cawley was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year following the regular season. She then went on to become the first female head coach to lead a team to an NCAA Division I women’s volleyball title.
