Penn State defeated Utah 35-21 in the Rose Bowl Monday evening. Quarterback Sean Clifford was named the game’s offensive Most Valuable Player. He threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns. It was the first win for the Nittany Lions in the Rose Bowl since their 38-20 victory over Oregon in 1995.
The Pitt football team defeated UCLA 37-35 in the Sun Bowl Friday night.
The College Football Playoff national championship game will be played next Monday night between Georgia and TCU. Georgia edged Ohio State 42-42 New Year’s Eve. TCU defeated Michigan 51-45 in the other national semifinal.
Bowl games played Monday:
–Tulane defeated USC 46-45 in the Cotton Bowl.
–LSU defeated Purdue 63-7 in the Citrus Bowl.
–Mississippi State defeated Illinois 19-10 in the RellaQuest Bowl. It was the first game MSU played since head coach Mike Leach passed away from a heart condition last month.
