Penn Township will be voting on a new ordinance that will allow for the township to fine property owners for unsafe structures.
At tonight’s Penn Township meeting, the board of supervisors will vote on an ordinance that will fine property owners up to $1,000 if their structure is deemed unsafe.
Before being fined, the citation will go through multiple officials to determine if the building is unsafe. The proposed plan would have the case go through a district magistrate. It would then include the Township Manager, the Code Official Building Inspector, the Code Enforcement Officer, and the Zoning Officer to determine if a building is unsafe and if a property owner will face a fine.
There will be means of appeal for those that are fined.
If approved by the board it will take effect five days after approval.
