A new partnership between PennDOT and the National Weather Service aims to learn more about drivers’ reactions during snow squalls.
The brief, but intense snow squalls can drop as much as two inches of snow in as little as 30 minutes.
Now, a new study is being conducted using virtual reality that will simulate the driving conditions and track how drivers react.
Officials hope to use the data to provide more timely and relevant information to drivers who are stuck in a snow squall, which includes the their variable speed limit signs that can change speed limits based on multiple conditions.
