PennDOT officials are releasing their latest data about distracted driving.
The report details information from 2019 and it shows that there were nearly 14,000 crashes attributed to distracted driving—those crashes resulted in 62 fatalities.
PennDOT says distracted driving can range from things like texting or eating. But a specific law prohibits writing, reading, or sending written messages while driving; that includes emails and texts.
The penalty is a $50 fine and a summary offense.
