With winter weather conditions expected later today and into Christmas day, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is urging motorists to limit travel and be aware of changing conditions.
Heavy rain followed by winter weather is forecast for the Butler County area and while PennDOT is prepared with plow trucks, equipment, and supplies, pretreatment with salt brine is not possible in the rain.
PennDOT anticipates issuing restrictions on trucks and some other kinds of vehicles for certain roadways but the timing and locations of those restrictions will largely be dependent on the weather system.
Driving on snow or ice, especially when precipitation is turning from rain to sleet or snow can be very dangerous and motorists are advised to leave ten times more space than normal between vehicles.
