PennDOT is hoping that a change in the test to become a bus driver will spark more interest in the position.
As districts all across the state face a shortage of bus drivers, Governor Josh Shapiro says there are some antiquated requirements in the previous test that can be removed.
Starting later this month, the CDL license exam to drive a bus will waive the “under the hood” requirement, which had potential drivers identify parts of the engine.
PennDOT officials say the technology of engines have evolved and school bus drivers should not have to know that aspect of the exam anymore.
